Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentary and analyses of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are depicted in pop culture. Aiming to dispel the myths that are associated with women in pop culture, she also works on issues related the targeted harassment women and other classes of people online. Sarkeesian, who has an MA in the field of Social and Political thought from York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. As a university student Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender equality and the rights of women at an early stage. In 2009, the determined young woman was targeted on the internet for her website featuring a series about gender and videogames. However, the attacks did not hinder her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a journalist who is feminist. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This educational non-profit explores the role of women in the pop-culture narratives.
